2009 TCTA Jr. Social at the Warren Olympic Club a big hit!
The TCTA Jr. tennis Social was a big
hit. There couldn’t have been a better summer’s day for playing
tennis and receiving top-rate instruction. Internationally
recognized tennis instructor Ron Steele was there helping 45 very
enthusiastic
young players find out how the world’s best players learn how to
play the game. The 3 hour clinic was held on the Warren Olympic
Club’s well maintained clay courts located at 3961 Tod Avenue. Ron
was assisted by 7 local area instructors led by Danny Karousis.
There was a break at the mid point
of the clinic for food and drink, but many of the juniors were back
out on the courts in a matter of a few minutes. Even after the three
hours in the hot sun, over a half dozen of the younger players went
to play on the hard courts while the clay courts were being groomed.
That’s enthusiasm!
Ron Steele, originally from Sydney,
Australia, is responsible for coaching the tennis players now on the
Israeli Davis Cup Team that is now in the semifinals against Spain.
It is obvious that Ron loves both teaching tennis and people,
especially kids which is why he is so likeable. His no-nonsense
pleasant manner cannot hide his personal intensity to impart the
very best instruction he knows to his students. He also provides
general guidance on how to put his instruction to use. It would hard
to find a better coach. Ron will be staying for one week and
providing personal instruction to some of our better local players.
We owe a heartfelt thanks to Dr
William Lippy for helping area tennis once again by bringing Ron to
the Warren area. We also want to thank TCTA, WOC, Danny Karousis and
his volunteer support instructors for a day that is sure to put a
huge boost into tennis enthusiasm in our area. We hope Ron will want
to return to Warren and help keep this momentum going.
